Profile

Jyukou Fujibayashi

Born in Kyoto, Japan in 1973.

Writing is an everyday thing, but doing calligraphy is something extraordinary. I have been doing calligraphy since I was three years old and it has already become a part of my daily life. My work is often inspired by my everyday life as I as I struggle with calligraphy.

One day, when I was struggling to create a work, I was struck by the beauty of a street tree. I wondered why it fascinated me so much. The answer lies in their “skeleton”. The branches stretching strongly towards the sky. I was fascinated by the balance between the branches and the beautiful sky.

The same applies to calligraphy. In order to express the inherent beauty of letters with lines, it is necessary to express the strong and supple “bones” and the beauty of the margins in a world where there is only black and white. These works are a snapshot of a moment in my daily lives.

I hope you enjoy my work in your home.
